From the artist:
Wyoming paintbrush and Wyoming big sagebrush are arguably the most quintessential plants of our state. They share an interesting natural history, as the paintbrush is hemiparasitic, relying partially on other plants (many times sagebrush) for its nutrients. Big sagebrush also serves a very important ecological role, providing the vast majority of nutrition for iconic animal species such as the pronghorn antelope and greater sage grouse. These plants are both extremely widespread through Wyoming, and on long drives across dry basins and rolling hills, you can just catch punctuations of red-orange paintbrush decorating the great sagebrush sea
