Collection: Jon Madsen: Oil Artist

Oil and Watercolor Paintings

I work in oil and watercolor and use a full spectrum of approaches, from direct
observational work, interpretive work where observation of the world of appearances is a major component, and more abstract work. I am either taking notes, trying out an idea to see what it looks like, or trying to capture a visual/emotional sensation, something like one gets from a glance at this world we are passing through. I have been actively entering competitive shows and have had a few one-person shows. I received Wyoming Arts Council Fellowships for the years 2000 and 2006. I am now retired, still painting and
living in Laramie, WY.

I was born in Kansas, grew up in Wyoming and made friends with the wind and open spaces. I attended college at the University of Wyoming BFA/MFA 1973, majoring in
Art. I then had a 25-year job in computers to support a family and my “painting habit.”
Then from 1998 – 2007, I taught beginning Drawing and Watercolor classes full-time for
the University of Wyoming Art Department. I have been actively entering competitive
shows and have had a few one-person shows. I received Wyoming Arts Council
Fellowships for the years 2000 and 2006. I am now retired, still painting and living in
Laramie, WY.
