We love foraging in the summer! A lot of the time we can't help ourself and eat berries right off the plant while on a hike, but sometimes we restrain ourselves and bring them home to make jams or pies. This painting features some of our favorite native wild berries, including wild raspberries (watch our for their thorns), gooseberries (not always universally loved because they can be a bit tart, but they are beautifully translucent and make great jelly), huckleberries (hard not to love), and wild strawberries (look for these tiny treats in open areas of the forest). Along with being a delicious snack for humans, these berries are an important food source for ungulates, birds, small mammals, and of course, bears.
