As spring melts into summer on Pole Mountain west of Laramie, a host of small flowering plants and greenery emerges before the aspen leaf out, lasting only a week or two. This painting includes the rare ladyslipper orchid, Canadian white violet, purple clematis, the brown, nonphotosynethic, spore-bearing shoots of horsetails, and a young aspen trunk.
